课程成果 | Studio2 · 同济飞亚达时间可视化项目(二):时间之外

我们读书、看电视或者手表的时候,很少意识到自己的大脑如何被这些行为所左右,更别说思考一下这些行为对于我们认识世界有怎样的影响了,但有人注意到了,芒福德认为:“钟表是一种动力机械,其产品是分和秒。在制造分秒的时候,钟表把时间从人类的活动中分离开来,并且使得人们相信时间是可以精确而可计量的单位独立存在的。分分秒秒的存在不是大自然的意图,而是人类运用自己创造出来的机械与自己对话的结果。

2022中国迎来又一个“超级航天年”,总共将进行60多次发射,还将建成天宫空间站,在科学科技的加持下人类已经从地球物种进化为跨星际物种,进入太空中生活。但在这个过程中,时间和空间作为我们一直以来认识宇宙同时约束自我的重要媒介,会发生怎样的转变?会对我们产生怎样的影响?

今年的飞亚达-同济时间可视化课程的第二个主题,聚焦宇宙尺度下的的时空表达,在学习和了解计时文化的基础上,学习算法生成与虚拟交互相关内容,通过Blender和Houdini为代表的数字工具,再现现实与想象中的宇宙图景,在探索数字航天与数字宇宙的同时,展现中国年轻人心中的宇宙观以及对于时空本质的思考。

在这次课程上,同学们天马行空的运用数字工具进行创作,让我印象深刻,在如此短的时间内,做出这么多的内容实属不易。时间是一个永恒的主题,同学们用不同的方式进行诠释:宇宙的、生命的、web3概念的,而且每一个结果都是多样和开放的,这是数字艺术的特色,随着近年来可视化编程技术的普及,越来越多的平台可以让创作者自主编程,再加上开源社区,使得数字艺术有了很大的发展,大家可以通过本次课程的成果感受到这种发展和变化,我想这是一种开始,随着创作工具越来越智能化,创作可能性不断被打开,未来将会有越来越多优质的数字作品呈现出来,非常期待。

Time visualization is a long-term design studio collaborating with China Aviation Group FIYTA Precision Technology Co., Ltd. This course is based on the tradition and culture of the watch-making industry, using artificial intelligence tools, exploring various possibilities of combining digital design with time symbols. We will help the students collect and translate data into patterns, textures, and interactive devices, and apply them to the design of watch dial, packaging, installations, and other integrated media of the time.

通过现有的知识,我们就能进行想象,而随着计算机技术的快速发展,想象力已不再是人类的专属。通过深度学习,机器可以更少地依赖人类来帮助它们了解这个世界。宇宙作为人类也很少抵达的地方,我们的想象能力此时似乎和计算机处于同一个起点。

当星云、宇宙物质、机器想象和nft这四个关键词结合起来,作者尝试利用算法模型,去尝试探索认知的界限,想象和创造星云与神秘宇宙物质。

StyleGan3创造了无数个独一无二的星云,作者结合瑰丽而稀有的矿石之形意,将浩瀚星云装进矿石中,它缓缓地在其中流动,一着眼就是一片宇宙。而这种独特性,使它具有延展为NFT的潜力。通过算法,结合古诗词与神话,为它们随机重新命名,并与生成的数字编号、Teachable machine分析的星云组成类型数据一起,组成了一系列完整的NFT作品。拥有者便可从此感受宇宙存在与星云生命。

We can envision using our present knowledge, and because to the rapid growth of computer technology, humans are no longer the only ones who can do so. Deep learning allows robots to comprehend the world without the assistance of humans. Given that humans rarely travel to the universe, our capacity for imagination appears to be at the same stage as that of computers at this time. When the four keywords nebula, cosmic matter, machine imagination, and nft are combined, the author attempts to push the bounds of perception by envisioning and producing nebulae and mysterious cosmic stuff.

StyleGan3 generates a broad range of unique nebulae, which the author mixes with the notion of a spectacular and unusual ore shape to create a cosmos at a glance by packing a large nebula inside the ore as it flows slowly through it. Because of its uniqueness, it has the potential to develop into NFT. They are given arbitrary names and, combined with the produced numbers and information on the type of nebula composition assessed by the Teachable machine, build a whole sequence of NFTs using an algorithm that blends old poetry and myths. The owner can then sense the existence of the universe and the nebula.

一款中国水墨风宇宙诞生蔓延图像。灵感来源于古代宇宙观,《乾凿度》提出了比较系统的宇宙生成论。其图式为:太易→太初→太始→太素→浑沦→天地→万物。其中混沌的描述气,形,质和现在的宇宙元素:尘埃→星团→星系,相结合。用水墨形式表现尘埃,用写实的程序化shader表现星团和星系,最终构成了水墨画风的宇宙诞生蔓延画面。

A Chinese ink painting of the universe was born and spread. Inspired by theancient cosmology, Dry Chisel Degree proposes a systematic theory of thecreation of the universe. Its schema is: Tai Yi→Tai Chu→Tai shi→Tai su→Hun Dun→heaven and earth→all things. The chaotic description of gas,form, mass and the present cosmic elements: dust→star clusters→galaxies. Dust is represented by ink painting,sta rclusters and galaxies are represented by realistic programmed shader, and the birth and spread of theuniverse in ink painting style is finally formed.

人有悲欢离合,月有阴晴圆缺。此款作品为飞亚达旗下品牌“予观象”,专门生产针对礼品手表的NFT虚拟表盘。科学家发现,鹦鹉螺的波状生长线每天生长一条,把它们命名为生长线,每月长一隔。螺纹分许多隔,虽宽窄不同,但每隔上的细小波状生长线在30条左右,而这30条生长线恰巧是现今月亮绕地球一周的天数,也就是说一个月有30天。地理学家又根据万有引力定律等物理原理,计算了远古时期,月亮和地球之间的距离,事实证明,月球正离我们远去。同时,“月”在中国文化中经常包含着悲情与思念,手表作为计时工具,蕴含着时间的流逝、岁月的更迭,与“月”的意涵很好的结合在一起。

People have their sorrows and joys, and the moon has its shades. This piece is avirtual dial of NFT, a brand of Fiat, which specializes in the production of giftwatches. Scientists discovered that the wavy growth lines of the nautilus grow oneper day, naming them growth lines, which grow one partition per month. The threads are divided into many compartments of different widths, but the tiny wavy growth lines on each compartment are around 30, and these 30 growth lines happento be the number of days that the moon goes around the earth today, which means there are 30 days in a month. Geographers have calculated the distance between themoon and the earth in ancient times based on the laws of gravity and other physical principles, and it has been proven that the moon is far away from us. At the same time, "moon" in Chinese culture often contains sadness and longing, and the watch,as a timekeeping tool, implies the passage of time and the change of years, which is well combined with the meaning of "moon".

一个行星是如何形成的?星云的自体引力、宇宙岩石的无数次碰撞、星际尘埃的汇聚等等都在星球的形成中起到一定的作用。宇宙中的“造星工坊”——星云在经过一系列运动变化后形成了恒星,而行星则伴随着恒星形成。行星在形成过程中受到诸多因素的影响而呈现出不同的外观、具备不同的属性。星球故事让用户可以根据自身的想法调整每种影响因素的比重,最终生成独特外观的星球。同时通过输入唯一的飞亚达手表编号,自动为每颗星球赋予独特的故事,让手表与星球连接,成为专属数字纪念。

How does a planet form? The self-gravity of nebulae, the countless collisions ofcosmic rocks, and the convergence of interstellar dust all play a role in the formationof stars. Stars form from nebulae, cosmic "star-making workshops", and planets formfrom stars. Planets take on different appearances and have different properties dueto many factors during their formation. Make Planets out of Stories allows users to adjust the weight of each influence factor to their own preferences, resulting in aunique looking planet. At the same time through the input of the only FIYTA watch number, automatically for each planet to give a unique story, so that the watch and the planet connected, become exclusive digital memorial.

巨大的沉默物体是科幻中常见的概念。它巨大而无言,人类无法得知其是如何创造的、其创造者又是谁。它给人带来的感受是威严、沉默、崇拜、不可触犯。暗示着一个时间空间上与我们相去甚远的世界,那里有许多不知道也不能理解的事物。

在这个作品中,陈星珲运用随机算法去创造有机、合理但又不可名状的纹理。附着于简单但又带有随机型状变化的几何物。使之随着时间流逝而逐渐变化。希望从视觉上重塑巨大沉默物给人带来的感受。

Big dumb object is a common concept in science fiction. It is big and wordless,it is no way for human to know who and how built. It gives us feelings ofdignity, silent, worship, and no offense. It implies a world which is far different from us in both time and space, where a lot of unknown things exist.In this art work, Xinghui Chen trying to use algorithm to create organic, reasonable but dis-understandable texture.Along with some simple geometry, which shape can randomly change by time. With all these together,he want to recreate the feelings of big dumb object in the virtual world.

我们现在所说的时间——秒、分钟、小时的这些计时单位,其实都基于基于我们人类日常生活所人为提出的概念,而这些是基于我们地球的天体运转规律,我们的钟表也是基于此,所以,钟表才划分为12个格子,每个代表1小时。那么,在和我们人类日常生活不同的视角下,在宇宙的尺度下的计时工具是什么样的呢?

如果有一个宇宙级的上帝视角,他所需要的宇宙时钟,一定不同于我们日常的环形时钟,而是一个线性发展的时间形式。而它的单位可能是以10亿年为单位。在线性发展的时间中,最重要的就是宇宙发展中的大事件。

在此项目的设定中,宇宙时钟主要涵盖了四个元素——多维度历年、线性时间刻度、内容物、宇宙事件点状图。而本项目的两个主要工作就是,探索宇宙时钟的形式,以及尝试部分宇宙事件的内容物。

‘Time’ we are using now— second, minute, and hour are actually based on the concepts proposed by our human beings in our daily life, and these arebased on the laws of the movement of our earth. And the design of our clocks are also based on this, therefore, the clock is divided into 12 grids, each representing 1 hour. So, from a different perspective from our daily life, what does a timekeeping tool on the scale of the universe look like?If there is a cosmic God's perspective, the cosmic clock he needs must bedifferent from our daily ring clock, but a linear development. time form. And its units may be in units of 1 billion years. In the linear development of time,the most important thing is the big events in the development of theuniverse.

In the setting of this project, the cosmic clock mainly covers four elements-multi-dimensional calendar year, linear time scale, content, and cosmic event dot chart. The two main tasks of this project are to explore the form of the cosmic clock, and to try out the ‘contents’ of some cosmic events.

“The Mask Of Artemis”聚焦于月相的变化形态,借用月亮女神的故事背景,将月相进行拟物化,设计出一系列的虚拟时尚饰品供AR虚拟穿戴体验。月相的阴晴圆缺预示着时间的流逝,古时的人们借以对生活的美好祝愿创造了神的形象,月亮女神阿耳忒弥斯代表着坚韧的狩猎女神,同时也是柔软的生育女神,不同身份的她有不同的责任。The Mask Of Artemis利用月相的阴阳两面分别代表了阿耳忒弥斯不同的身份,选取了8种特别的月相作为意象,黑色锋利的面具侧与银色柔和的面具侧形成对比,表达月相的不同变化。虚拟时尚作为元宇宙流行趋势,可以带给人们不同的穿戴体验,3D佩戴效果也给体验者增加了不同次元的乐趣,通过AR虚拟穿戴,每个人都可以戴上月亮女神的面具去感受月相的变化和她的故事。

"The Mask Of Artemis" focuses on the changing shape of the moon phase, borrowing the story background of the moon goddess, simulating the moon phase, and designing a series of virtual fashion accessories for AR virtual wearing experience. The lunar phase of the moon indicates the passage of time. The ancient peoplecreated the image of the gods with their good wishes for life. The moon goddess Artemis represents the goddess of hunting, and is also the goddess of fertility. She has different responsibility of different identities.The Mask Of Artemis uses the yin and yang sides of the moon phase to represent the different identities of Artemis, and selects eight special moon phases as imagery. The sharp black mask side contrasts with the silver soft mask side to express different moon phases. As a popular trend in the metaverse, virtual fashion can bring people different wearing experiences. The 3D wearing effect also adds fun in different dimensions to the experiencers. Through AR virtual wear, everyone can wear the mask of the goddess of the moon to feel the phases of the moon and learn her story.
